So happy to call this bunch my rave fam <3 And so happy to feel what old school loving and caring for your fellow raver is suppose to be like. I must say, the crowd at a true Anjuna event is different. It’s special. If there are other rave groups that has the same community feel, I would like to know who they are so I could go to those events too!
Below is a screenshot of a post someone made in the ABGT Gorge Weekender Facebook group after the event. This makes me so happy to hear. 😌💞
Day 1 - Reunited 💕
Fu and I got up around 7 AM to check out some of Seattle before our 3 hour drive to Wenatchee, Washington where we were staying this weekend.
Picked up poor Andrew at Pangborn Memorial Airport. I texted him when we were 5 minutes away to see what terminal he was at. He said the airport was so small it didn’t have terminals. We pulled up and it looked like a bus station. He’s been waiting for us for about 3 hours.
Reunion time! We got to the house a couple minutes after the other car. Everyone claimed their beds, chatted a bit but didn’t bother unpacking because we were all hungry.
Decided to go to Sweetwood BBQ. Ordered a sampler plater that serves 4-6 people. We had 8. We were all really hungry. Luckily, Emily stopped us from ordering two platers. We got one to share and an order of large fries. We were plenty full after all of that.
Afterwards was our usual Target stop for supplies, pizza rolls and lunchables. They didn’t have dino nuggets. Also decided to go to Costco’s for more of the bulk items like water and eggs.
Oh! Now about the watermelon title. 🍉 We got a watermelon at Costco’s. When we got back, we started unloading things. I went outside to see what else they needed help with. As soon as I stepped outside, I heard Jason and Tushar cracking up. I asked them what happened but neither of them could answer from laughing so hard. I looked down the street and I see our watermelon had rolled down to the curb! 😂 When they opened the truck, they hear a *plop*, looked to see what it was and saw our watermelon rolling away. They waved goodbye. 👋😂 You can see the aftermath of what happened in the video below. 📽
Day 2 - Weekender Begins 🥳
Fu and I were up pretty early. We toasted some pastries in the oven. Was struggling hard to figure out the coffee maker. Eventually everyone got up. Fruits, veggies, eggs and sausages for breakfast. Thank you for cooking, Emily!
We chilled, we napped, we got ready.
For lunch, we went to Tropical Salvadorean Restaurant. We saw the “cash only” sign at the door and all froze. Everyone pulled out their wallets to see how much cash they had. Most of us had no cash at all. And this just following a conversation we had earlier in the day about credit card and digit payments taking over.
The restaurant was pretty small so we took up most of the space. We were standing around trying to figure out the items on the menu. The family that was eating there recommended the pupusas. We got an order of chicken and an order of beef pupusas. Fu and I also shared the yuca con chicharron.
The drive from our house to The Gorge was about an hour. It was a very scenic drive with mountains on one side and the Columbia River on the other. Fun fact: The Columbia River is the largest in the Pacific Northwest. And the water comes from Canada. Emily found a book in the house about the Wenatchee area. 🤓
The venue itself is worth a visit. It looked just like I imagined it based on pictures online. A big open field with a stage at the bottom of the hill. There were tons of food vendors and porter potty stations. They had the fanciest porter potties I’ve ever seen! Lights, ventilated and flushes! Even proper sinks outside the potties.
What’s nice about the venue on a hill is that everywhere is a pretty good view. You don’t have to worry about the person in front of you blocking your view.
I was a bit worried the sound wouldn’t be as good since it was such a big open field but we could hear the music loud and clear from the parking lot.
The sunset on the left of the stage was really pretty! River, clouds, pinkish sunset, good music, good crowd, good vibes. All around good night.
Up until 11:30 PM when I got cold. At that point, I was ready to go home. Sucks because that’s when Above and Beyond was on. I couldn’t enjoy Ilan Bluestone after A&B either cause of the cold. I didn’t listen to people who said to bring a hoodie. 😅 I don’t think it would have been so bad if I was down in the pit with all the body heat and jumping around more. It was also super windy.
Oh well. 🙈
Got a funny story out of it at least! Fu and I went to the car halfway through the last set because I couldn’t take it anymore. We were sitting there waiting for the rest of the group when a guy ran up to the car. I lowered the window a bit. He looks at us, paused for a second then says “fuck!” Looks around then runs to the car the next aisle over. That car looked nothing like our car. 😂 He peeked into the car but no one was there. A moment later, a group of Asian guys approached that car. They opened the door and started getting in. Fu and I were in our car cracking up. He then runs back up to us, I lower the window again. He looks at us, looks back towards his car, looks back at us and goes “fuuuuckkk” then runs back to his car. LMAO that made going back to the car early worth it. 😂😂😂 Hilarious way to end a great night.
Day 3: Anjunadeep 🕊
Woke up with a massive headache. 🤯 Probably from the cold and wind from the night before.
Everyone got up a little later today.
Grilled at the house and got some KFC.
Napped after lunch before day 2 of ABGTW.
Anjunadeep day 😌 We knew today was going to be a chill day so we brought blankets and beach towels to sit on. There was also a stand handing out free lawn chair rentals to T-Mobile customers. Thank you, T-Mobile!
We found a spot on the grass to lay out.
Fu and I went to wander around and check out the vendors. Found a spot in the shade to eat our ice cream and watch people trade cool kandi.
Went back to the group when the sun started setting. There was a guy with a bubble gun and hand fan. Later in the night there was a guy with two cool light things he would swing and different images would show up.
We were going to head out a bit before the last set ended but decided to wait with Tushar’s friend until her friends came back. Good thing we waited cause Above and Beyond came out after the last set to say a few words. They ended the festival with:
We’ll be back. Same place, same time in 2021. Until then.
🤩 So there we go! See you in 2021!
